Florida State LB Hayes Declares For Draft

POSTED: 5:02 pm EST January 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes announced Wednesday he will skip his senior season and enter the NFL Draft, according to the Tallahasee Democrat.

Hayes recorded 80 tackles -- 17 1/2 for loss -- and was an Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection this past season.

"I know he has the ability to play at that level," said Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden. "It's just a matter of time. I wish him the best of luck."

Hayes, a three time All-ACC selection, was backed up by Marcus Ball, who will be a junior. Hayes' departure also means freshman linebackers Nigel Bradham and Vincent Williams, who enrolled this week, will have an early opportunity to play for the Seminoles, who finished 7-6 after losing 35-28 to Kentucky in the Music City Bowl this past season.

"This has been the toughest decision I have ever had to make," added Hayes. "I would first like to thank Coach Bowden and Coach Amato and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me all the tools I needed to become a great football player."
