Florida State Gives Itself Two Years Probation

POSTED: 2:22 pm EST February 14, 2008

(Sports Network) - Florida State has put several, but not all, of its sports teams on probation and imposed a scholarship reduction after a self-investigation into a cheating scandal involving its student- athletes.

The university released a report Thursday stating that about 60 student- athletes have lost eligibility, or will lose some eligibility due to their involvement in the cheating scandal, and that two university employees have been fired as a result.

The scandal became public in late December, when FSU's football team suspended dozens of players for the Music City Bowl -- many of them apparently involved in the cheating scandal.

Florida State's teams will lose scholarships proportionally, based on the level of involvement in the scandal of players on each team. The university submitted its report to the NCAA, which will likely conduct its own investigation into the scandal.
